Focus Portugal

Portugal tritt aus seinem Schattendasein als Filmnation heraus: 25 Filmfestivals gibt es dort mittlerweile, die meisten davon sind erst in den letzten Jahren gegründet worden. Die sechs Filme, die wir für den diesjährigen Länderschwerpunkt Portugal ausgewählt haben, vermitteln einen guten Einblick in das, was die Kurzfilm-Szene dieses Landes auszeichnet: handwerkliche Perfektion, Stilbewusstsein, inhaltlicher Anspruch und vor allem der Wille, dem Format Kurzfilm dauerhaft Kontur und Schärfe zu verleihen.

Portugal steps out of its shade existence as film nation: Now there are 25 film festivals all over the country, most of them were established in the last few years. The six short films that have been selected fort his year’s »Focus Portugal« provide an insight in the key qualities of the portugese short film scene: everyone is a master in his trade, has a distinct sense of style, is demanding when it comes to storytelling and – most of all – has a willingness to shape the format.

Erst dann geschehen die Wunder.The tide turns in cycles. Water rots wood. Meteors may fall anytime, anywhere. It’s just rock burning in the atmosphere. Fishes die if they stay out of the water for too long. This process takes time and when it ends there’s no turning back. When one of these things does not take place something fundamental has changed. That’s when miracles happen.
